“Year of the Tiger” Virtual Performance and Talkback

Location: Online

On March 25, 2021, the Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice, with support from the Office of the Vice President for Research at the University of Texas at Austin, hosted the Year of the Tiger, a virtual performance and Talkback.

Presented by the Department of Theatre and Dance, Year of the Tiger creatively combined interviews with workers impacted by the pandemic, viral videos, official declarations, and… a tiger. The show blended fact and fiction as it explored not only the impact of COVID-19 worldwide, but also civil unrest, police brutality and the Trump administration’s war with truth.

The talkback, co-sponsored by the Rapoport Center and part of our inter-disciplinary and cross-campus Pop-Up Institute, “Beyond the Future of Work: New Paradigms for Addressing Global Inequality,” and supported by the Office of the Vice President for Research, contributed to our conversations within both the “essential work” and “future of artistic labor” research clusters.
