A coalition of UT entities organized a day-long expert convening on October 22, 2024 on xenophobia in the US-Mexico borderlands, in connection with a United Nations effort to address the human rights impacts of xenophobia against migrants. The convening consisted of two events: (1) a meeting of academic, government, and civil society experts who provided input on the draft of a General Comment/Recommendation document that will be issued by the UN Committee against Racial Discrimination (CERD) and the UN Committee on the Rights of Migrant Workers (CMW); and (2) a public panel and community dialogue with UN representatives, academics, and government policy-makers who considered interdisciplinary strategies for redressing xenophobia in the context of borders and immigration enforcement.
