Undergraduate Communications Internship

Rapoport Center undergraduate Communications Interns bring energy, expertise, and professional skillsets to the Center’s research, programming, and educational projects. In addition to possessing excellent communications skillsets, we are particularly interested in interns who have expertise or interest in human rights and social justice, particularly the Center's thematic priorities: environmental justice and climate justice, reproductive justice, and peace, among other focal points.

Application

Eligibility: The internship is open to all currently enrolled UT Austin undergraduate students, regardless of major, and to UT students of all citizenship statuses.

DEADLINE: Applications AND reference submissions are due at 12:00pm on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

Communications Internships are recommended for undergraduates interested in:
  • Applying their digital communications, marketing, graphic design, video editing, or related skills to human rights and social justice programming, research, and advocacy projects;
  • Gaining experience in digital content creation in the context of an academic research center;
  • Engaging with and discussing human rights scholarship, law, and practice;
  • Gaining practical communications and administrative experience; and
  • Collaborating with faculty, staff, and students on human rights research, advocacy, and education.
Communications Interns will participate in projects managed by the Center’s Senior Communications Associate, including: 
  • Supporting the Center's social media and general communications outreach;
  • Maintaining, expanding, and designing websites for the Rapoport Center’s projects and initiatives;
  • Creating digital graphics, editing videos, and developing other promotional assets;
  • Planning, writing, editing, and distributing event descriptions, newsletters, and press releases;
  • Photographing and supporting the Center’s events;
  • Serving as a liaison to the UT undergraduate community and developing the Center's undergraduate outreach; and
  • Assisting Center staff and other student team members with other projects and tasks as needed.

Required qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled at UT Austin as an undergraduate student;
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content;
  • Videography & Photography: Competency in capturing and editing photos and videos for use across social media channels, campaigns, and other marketing initiatives; and
  • Experience creating content and designing visual assets using tools such as Canva.
The following qualifications may be preferred in some candidates:
  • Currently enrolled in a communications, advertising, public relations, or related major;
  • Experience designing public-facing communications, including social media, event publicity, newsletters, blogs, etc.;
  • Experience developing websites (especially using WordPress platform) and/or curating digital content;
  • Community engagement and/or outreach experience at UT, or in a comparable academic or nonprofit setting;
  • Proficiency in any of the following programs:
    • Canva
    • Adobe InDesign
    • Adobe Premiere Pro
    • WordPress
    • Robly
Fall and Spring internships offer a scholarship of $1250, and selected interns should be available to work 10 hours per week. Summer internships offer a scholarship of $2500, and selected interns should be available to work 20 hours per week. The majority of an intern's working hours will take place in-person at the Rapoport Center.

  • Cover letter: state why you are interested in the position; demonstrate basic knowledge of Rapoport Center programs and activities. Be sure to address your specific skills and qualifications (see above).
  • Resume/CV: be sure to indicate any relevant skills or proficiency in languages other than English.
  • Transcript or academic summary: we accept unofficial transcripts, and/or an academic summary.
  • Please submit a professional portfolio featuring 3–5 design samples. These can include any type of marketing material, such as visual designs, websites, written content like articles, newsletters, or similar pieces, or links to videos. Please include short explanatory notes describing the context of this content and your role in its creation.
In addition, three references (at least two must be UT faculty) who can speak to your professional or academic background must complete our short online reference form by 12:00pm on May 14, 2026. Applications without references submitted by this deadline will be considered partially incomplete.
