Submission Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in and submission(s) to the AI Opportunity Inventory. We are building a community of contributors and stakeholders to identify and catalog AI use cases that have the potential to meaningfully contribute to major societal goals. This effort would not be possible without your attention and contribution!

I. Our Mission and Principles

The AI Opportunity Inventory is designed to identify, catalogue, and analyze AI use cases that have the potential to meaningfully contribute to major societal goals. We aim to make these opportunities transparent, accessible, and actionable for policymakers, researchers, investors, and civil society organizations.

In providing access to user-submitted materials and metadata, We:

  • Support research, teaching, and scholarship to advance global knowledge and understanding of AI applications,
  • Provide open access to submitted materials while respecting legal, contractual, ethical, and safety considerations
  • Acknowledge the evolving social, cultural, and political contexts in which AI opportunities are developed and deployed,
  • Approach content display, retention, and distribution decisions in consultation with relevant communities and stakeholders where appropriate, and
  • Preserve the authenticity and integrity of submitted information while enabling broad access and use.

II. Guidance for Content Submissions

You may submit content to the Inventory describing AI use cases and opportunities so long as the content:

  • Is accurate to the best of your knowledge
  • Does not violate any person’s privacy rights or confidentiality obligations
  • Does not infringe on intellectual property rights of others
  • Does not contain illegal, obscene, threatening, defamatory, or harmful material
  • Does not contain malware, viruses, or commercial solicitations

A.   Content Standards and Privacy

You are solely responsible for ensuring that any content you submit respects privacy and confidentiality. You are obligated adhere to the following specifications:

  • Do not include personal identifying information of individuals without their consent
  • Do not disclose proprietary information without proper authorization
  • Do not include information that could cause harm to individuals or organizations if publicly disclosed
  • Ensure you have the right to share any information included in your submission

You are solely liable for any violations of privacy, confidentiality, or other legal obligations arising from your submissions.

By submitting content to the Inventory, you grant the public a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, and display such content under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

By submitting content to the Inventory, you represent and warrant that you have the right and/or full authorization to grant the aforementioned rights without obtaining the permission of, or making payments to any third party and/or entity.
