Emergency Information

- Call 911 from any phone (including a cell phone) while on campus to connect directly with UTPD.
- Use the Live Safe at UT Austin App to communicate with UTPD by text.
- Emergency call boxes connect directly to UTPD and are located in the Atrium and near the loading dock downstairs on the first floor in JON.
- Situations that may pose an immediate threat to self, others, or property must be reported right away even if they are not life-threatening.
- If you even suspect a safety concern, call UTPD so they can assess, help, send campus safety notices, and track trends.

- For less-urgent situations, call the UTPD non-emergency line: 512-471-4441.
- Use the Live Safe at UT Austin App to communicate with UTPD by text.
- To report concerning behavior by a member of the UT community that does not present an immediate threat, contact the Behavioral Concerns Advice Line (BCAL):
- Phone: 512-232-5050
- Online: Submit a Report Online through the BCAL website (it includes FAQs and examples of reportable behaviors).

- After notifying UTPD or BCAL, report all concerns to the Law School Building Manager, Joaquin Tovar, at 512-232-7801, or to Law-Facilities@law.utexas.edu, or to the Dean’s Office at 512-232-1120.

- Campus Text Alert System: All faculty, staff, and students should sign up to receive timely emergency updates (UT EID/DUO required).
- Outdoor Warning System: Activated during severe weather or other emergencies. The sirens are tested on the first Wednesday of each month.
- Fire Alarms – if a fire alarm is triggered in any law school building, all occupants should evacuate and gather at an Assembly Point and await further instruction. (Fire alarms and extinguishers are located throughout the school and are monitored by Fire Prevention Services at the University.)

- Review the University’s Emergency Preparedness Guide for guidance in the event of a lockdown, active shooter, evacuation, sheltering in place order, or health emergency. (Copies are in the Communication Center, Tarlton Law Library, SAO, and CSO.)
