Description

Taught by Professor Susan R. Klein and Chief Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Brown, Western District of Texas. This course, taken for a letter-grade, will meet once per week for 100 minutes. The course will address the duties of federal criminal prosecutors, including grand jury procedure, drafting indictments, calculating a sentence under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines post-Booker, designing an undercover operation, selecting a jury, plea bargaining, and responding to evidentiary and discovery objections. Grades are determined on the basis of the quality of written projects and class participation; there is no final exam. Students enrolled in the two-semester "for credit" internship with the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas must enroll in this course, and will receive priority placement. Other interested students may take this course without enrolling in the internship on a space-available basis. NOTE: LAW 279M, Federal Criminal Prosecution, Adv. and LAW 397S, Federal Criminal Prosecution, Adv. may not both be counted for credit.
