Description

LEGAL ISSUES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF OCEAN ECOSYSTEMS This seminar will survey the legal issues that surround and shape policies affecting Ocean Ecosystems. The lecture portion of the course will include analysis of Domestic and International Fisheries Management, Trade in Fish and Fisheries Products, Ocean Dumping and Marine Pollution, the Law of Marine Mammal Conservation, the Endangered Species Act and Marine Species, the Law and Impact of Tourism on Marine Environments, Marine Protected Areas and Coral Reefs, Issues involving Energy Production and Emerging Ocean Uses and a Legal Analysis of Ecosystem Based Management in U.S. and Ocean Areas. Students will write and present an original paper focusing on a particular legal issue or policy proposal that directly impacts the Management of the Ocean Ecosystem.
