Description

This seminar examines the regulation of financial markets--those in securities, banking, currencies and financial commodities--using as a point of departure an inquiry into the markets themselves and the classes of participants in those markets, and concentrating significantly on the different powers and styles of regulation and their impact on behavior. Non-U S markets are addressed with a comparative analysis, using U S regulation as a base. Particular attention is devoted to revisions to financial market regulation emanating from the financial crisis of 2007-2008, including the Dodd-Frank Act, and recent turmoil reflected by litigation that, measured by amount at issue or number of disputes, is considered significant.
