Description
The Brief Writing and Oral Advocacy component of the course is worth two credits and covers persuasive written legal analysis and persuasive fact writing for the appellate brief, as well as oral argument in an appellate court. Students will write an appellate brief and make an oral argument. As part of the course, students must attend three outside-of-class lectures by appellate-practice experts. The Advanced Legal Research component of the course is worth one credit and will provide students with a thorough understanding of research methods in primary and secondary authority. Students will explore the content of different types of authority, how authorities are related to one another, the particular resources that publish (both electronically and traditionally) authority, and the tools that enable retrieval of relevant authority. The goal of the class is to enable students to develop research strategies for solving academic and practice-oriented legal research questions. Three credits, graded. Open to 1Ls only.Instructors
