Description

An intensive hands-on seminar on litigating in the Supreme Court of the United States. Course will focus both on practical advocacy and on Supreme Court decision-making. Class will cover petitions for certiorari, briefs in opposition, merits briefs, amicus briefs, and oral arguments. Class will also address the cert pool, weekly Court conferences, and opinion-writing. Students will write briefs, personally argue cases, and participate as mock Justices deciding cases and writing opinions. Each student will argue twice and will write one brief, one argument outline, and one opinion. Coursework based on actual cases currently pending before the Supreme Court. Seminar is rigorous, and full attendance and enthusiastic participation are required. Constitutional Law II is a prerequisite (absent instructor permission). Enrollment is limited to twelve students.
