Description

President Obama's term in office raised a number of interesting and important constitutional questions; and President Trump's term, though only just begun, promises to be rich in such questions as well.  Some samples: War powers, interim appointments, discretion and discrimination with regard to immigration, the scope of authority to issue executive orders, the standing of the states to sue the federal government and the emoluments clause.  In this seminar, students will choose from among the many issues that have arisen, and produce papers critically addressing them.  With the instructor's help, students will select readings for their classmates, present their theses, and preside over discussions. Class responsibilities will include active participation in class discussions and the production of final papers.
