Description

This reading-intensive seminar introduces the canon of American legal thought: the various schools of thought that have most influenced modern American legal reasoning, decision-making, and reform efforts. It is a survey of the intellectual theories and traditions that emerged throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, largely in response to prevailing legal sensibilities. Students will engage canonical authors representing legal formalism, legal realism, legal process, law and economics, law and society, various types of critical legal studies, feminist legal thought, and law and political economy. The seminar meets once a week. Paper required.
