Cory R. Liu

Cory Liu is a civil litigation attorney and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas School of Law. His scholarship focuses on civil rights law, constitutional law, and administrative law.
Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Liu is the son of immigrants from China who lived through the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution. He is passionate about mentoring first-generation law students and making the University of Texas and legal profession welcoming and inclusive for students of all backgrounds.
Liu has advocated for the rights of Asian Americans to equal educational opportunity and co-authored an amicus brief with Professor David E. Bernstein that the Supreme Court relied on in its landmark decision Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President & Fellows of Harvard College.

Liu previously served as assistant general counsel to Texas Governor Greg Abbott and was a law clerk to Judge Andrew Oldham of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and Judge Danny Boggs of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. In law school, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School, the University of Chicago, and the Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA).
