Edward A. Cavazos

Ed is an attorney is the managing partner in the Austin office of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP. He represents clients in general business and corporate transactions with an emphasis on complex technology-related deals involving intellectual property. He routinely counsels clients regarding licensing arrangements, development contracts, sales and distribution arrangements, and a variety of other issues faced by technology companies. In addition to his broad transactional practice, Ed has civil jury trial experience in both state and federal courts, where he has litigated disputes involving patents, trade secrets, copyrights, trademarks, breach of contracts, and Internet-related claims. He has represented clients in the Internet, software, hardware, and semiconductor industries. Ed also has experience in media and entertainment law, with an emphasis on interactive entertainment and the video game industry.

Prior to returning to private practice in 2001, Ed was Senior VP, General Counsel (and later Sr. VP, Legal and Business Affairs) of Interliant, Inc., a pioneering Internet application service provider and web-hosting firm that went public in July of 1999. He is the co-author of Cyberspace and the Law: Your Rights and Duties in the On-Line World (MIT Press, 1994), which was awarded the Association of American Publishers "Best New Professional and Scholarly Book -- Computer Science" in 1994. In addition, he has published a number of articles exploring the intersection of law and technology in both mainstream publications and law reviews.
