Erich Schwartz is a former partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, where he led a global securities regulatory compliance and investigations practice. He studies emergent and potentially transformative technologies and considers the economic, social, regulatory and political issues associated with their adoption and commercialization. Among his technological interests are blockchain and decentralized finance, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and genetics.  Earlier in his law career, he was an enforcement lawyer at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, serving as assistant director of the Enforcement Division in Washington, D.C.
