John Greil

John Greil, who co-teaches a clinic on law and religion, joined the law school from Vinson & Elkins LLP, where he gained extensive litigation experience and represented clients in foreign jurisdictions, the U.S. Supreme Court, and at every level of the Texas legal system. Professor Greil specializes in the intersection of religion and the law. He clerked for two federal district judges and in the United Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Professor Greil graduated cum laude from both Harvard Law School and the University of Notre Dame. Prior to transitioning into academia, he clerked for federal district judges Nathaniel Gorton (D. Mass.) and Paul Barbadoro (D. New Hamp.), as well as Judge Jennifer Walker Elrod of the United Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He will be joining the law school from Vinson & Elkins LLP, where he has gained extensive litigation experience and represented clients in foreign jurisdictions, the U.S. Supreme Court, and at every level of the Texas legal system. His scholarly work has appeared in The Villanova Law Review and The Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy.
