John Greil
- Clinical Professor

John Greil co-teaches the Law and Religion Clinic, where he supervises student-led representations of clients in need of litigation, transaction, and consulting services. He is an active trial-level and appellate litigator in state and federal court and regularly supports clients in the United States Supreme Court. An expert on law and religion, Professor Greil also teaches a seminar titled Understanding Conservative Legal Thought. Before joining the faculty, he practiced at Vinson & Elkins LLP and clerked on the federal district and court of appeals.

John Greil is a Clinical Professor of Law in the Law and Religion Clinic the University of Texas School of Law. Grove graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame and Harvard Law School, where he served as Executive Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. Greil clerked for Chief Judge Jennifer Walker Elrod on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and then practiced antitrust and commercial litigation at Vinson & Elkins LLP.
His research has been published in the Villanova Law Review and the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, his legal commentary has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, and his case work has been covered by Religion News Service, Texas Public Radio, and ICT (formerly Indian Country Today).
He teaches seminars on Law and Religion and Understanding Conservative Legal Thought, and is the faculty advisor to the Texas Review of Law & Politics.
