Krystal Jones
- Adjunct Professor
"Legal should not be the department of 'no,' but the department of 'know.' Educate, engage, encourage creative problem solving. If you want business partners to come to you when there is an issue (rather than finding out after the fact when regulators or litigators are knocking at your door), make sure they know you are there to help."
Krystal Jones, as quoted by Steinberg & Yeager, Inside Counsel 189 (2d ed. 2020).
Krystal Jones is faculty instructor for the Corporate Counsel Internship program and the current Senior/Second Counsel and Compliance Officer for a start-up life insurance enterprise. True to the in-house experience, Krystal is a generalist and well-versed in areas such as: AI, privacy, transactions, product development, compliance, audit, conversion, cybersecurity, mergers and acquisitions, management, special investigations, corporate governance, regulatory and statutory oversight... the list goes on. She's worked in both private and publicly traded companies, has provided regulatory compliance oversight for foreign jurisdictions, and has served in both Legal and Compliance Senior Staff roles.
Professor Jones credits her career path to participation in a corporate counsel placement program during law school. The experience was so impactful, she committed for years to hosting law students from various schools and mentoring them through what it really means to be in-house counsel. This passion for mentoring evolved to teaching when she relocated to Austin, TX and began discussions with UT Law about implementing a program where students earn credit while interning in local corporate legal departments, complemented with class sessions focused on reflection, overarching in-house topics, practical tips, and guided discussion. Fast forward to spring 2026 and we have the inaugural UT Corporate Counsel Internship!
