Matthew J. Sullivan

Matthew Sullivan teaches courses on construction law and construction litigation as an adjunct faculty member and is a partner in the law firm of DuBois, Bryant & Campbell, LLP. Professor Sullivan’s experience is primarily related to the representation of architects, engineers, contractors and owners in the litigation and arbitration of disputes and assists with various transactional matters.
Matt Sullivan teaches courses on Construction Law and Construction Litigation. He is an equityt partner in the law firm of DuBois, Bryant & Campbell, LLP (and previously an equity partner with Haynes and Boone, LLP) and represents architects, engineers, contractors and owners in the litigation and arbitration of disputes and assists with various transactional matters. He regularly serves as a neutral in the mediation and arbitration of disputes in the construction industry and has served as an arbitrator on a wide range of projects with an equally wide range of construction value up to $8 billion. A number of those disputes have involved claims in excess of $100 million and several involved claims handled by the International Chamber of Commerce under its ICC Rules. He is a member of the American Arbitration Association's Construction Mega Project Panel. He was designated by Best Lawyers in America as the Lawyer of the Year (Austin) in both the Arbitration and Construction Litigation categories in 2025-26.
Prior to entering law school, Mr. Sullivan was employed as a project manager for one of the world’s largest engineering/construction corporations. He has worked on various types of projects including high-rise office buildings, high-tech facilities and manufacturing plants in Texas, Maryland and Virginia.
He has been selected by his peers for inclusion on the list of the “Best Lawyers in America” in Commercial Litigation (2003 to present), Construction Litigation (2023-present), and Arbitration (2024-present). In addition, each year since 2003 he has been selected by his peers as a “Super Lawyer” in Construction Litigation by Texas Monthly magazine and the top 50 lawyers list for Central Texas in 2018. He has maintained an A/V rating by Martindale Hubbell since 1998.
Mr. Sullivan graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction. He received his law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law where he was the editor-in-chief of the St. Mary’s Law Journal. He admitted to practice law in Texas, all Federal courts in Texas, and the United States Supreme Court.
He was the Chairman of the State Bar of Texas Construction Section in 2018 and has published over a dozen articles on a variety of construction law and litigation topics.
