Molly Claflin is a DC-based attorney specializing in high-profile government investigations and crisis management. After graduating from Stanford Law School, Claflin moved to Chicago, Illinois to do crisis management for the 2008 Obama campaign. Following the campaign, she spent more than five years at Gibson Dunn, where she focused on congressional investigations, securities litigation, and internal investigations.
Since that time, Claflin has worked for both the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. She was hired as the Senate Judiciary Committee's first full-time investigative counsel, where she managed investigations including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's emails and candidate Donald Trump's campaign connections to Russia. In the House of Representatives, she served as Deputy Staff Director on the House Committee on Oversight and Reform Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, where she managed the team investigating financial fraud in coronavirus relief programs. Her team's work there resulted in multiple prosecutions and enforcement actions, and hundreds of millions of dollars returned to U.S. taxpayers.
Claflin most recently served as Special Counsel at the U.S. Department of State, under the Biden Administration, where she managed the Department's defense of congressional investigations into the Afghanistan withdrawal, U.S. efforts to curb foreign disinformation, China policy, and numerous others.
Claflin has been widely recognized for her investigations work, and was awarded the Stevens Award by the Harry S. Truman Foundation for outstanding public service in the legal profession. She has also been named a French-American Foundation Young Leader, and is a 2003 Truman Scholar.
