Abortion Shield Laws in Action

In 2022, when Roe v Wade was on the cusp of being overturned, we wrote that “the interjurisdictional abortion wars are coming.” They have now arrived.

In this short piece, we explain how abortion shield laws work in the context of telehealth provision of abortion into states with abortion bans as well as the current legal challenges to these laws. So far, the challenges have been unsuccessful. But if they ever do succeed in limiting shield provision, they will close off an avenue of care on which tens of thousands have relied despite abortion bans in their home state.
