The Judge David Garner Scholarship is created in honor and memory of Judge David Garner, a retired district court judge and a fixture in the Galveston County, Texas legal community. Judge Garner served Galveston County at the Galveston County Criminal District Attorney’s Office early in his legal career before transitioning to private practice. Judge Garner then honorably presided over the 10th Judicial District Court of Galveston County, Texas for twenty (20) years until his retirement. Judge Garner was a role model and mentor to many, and he has left behind an incredible legacy in the Galveston County legal community and beyond. The Judge David Garner Scholarship is a tribute to Judge Garner’s Galveston County legacy and desire to mentor young attorneys.
The Judge David Garner Scholarship recipient shall receive $5000 towards their law school tuition and/or expenses. The scholarship recipient is invited to receive their award in person at an upcoming Galveston County Bar Association Luncheon.
To apply, please submit the materials below:
- An essay of 500 words or less describing why you chose to pursue a career in law and why Galveston County is important to you.
- A copy of your resume; and
- If applicable, please provide a short 2 or 3 sentence summary of any special financial needs.
Please submit your scholarship application by Monday, September 15th, 2025, by 5pm.
- Eligibility
All current or incoming law students are invited to apply for the Judge David Garner Scholarship. Specifically, applicants are asked to describe why they chose to pursue a career in law and why Galveston County, Texas is important to them. Whether the applicant is a law student from Galveston County, wishes to work in Galveston County after graduation, or maintains some other connection to Galveston County, please use the essay as an opportunity to share with the Judge David Garner Scholarship Committee.
