On Thursday, April 24, join the Strauss Center for International Security and the School of Law’s Business Law Program in hosting Heather Grenier, Apple’s Head of Litigation and alumna of The University of Texas at Austin’s School of Law, as she shares insights into her career journey and what it takes to thrive as a junior in-house lawyer. This discussion will provide a practical guide to excelling in corporate law, covering topics that often go beyond the classroom—such as earning the trust of senior attorneys, navigating complex legal landscapes, and developing the diplomacy needed to align diverse stakeholders.

She will also offer a behind-the-scenes look at litigation in the technology industry, including the types of cases that arise, key areas of law, and the real-world distribution of legal matters in a global company like Apple. With a background in international law and firsthand experience climbing the ranks from a junior lawyer, she will provide step-by-step advice on how to build credibility, sharpen legal skills, and establish a strong foundation for a successful in-house career.

Biography: Heather Grenier serves as a legal executive at Apple, overseeing litigation as well as the company’s legal and security operations.  Her operational role includes a broad array of internal infrastructure such as technology implementation, financial management and procurement, strategic external legal partnerships, information governance, corporate worldwide trainings, employee engagement, and executive communications.

Heather joined Apple from Morrison & Foerster in 2011 where she was a litigation partner in San Francisco. At MoFo, Heather represented Apple among a variety of clients from other industries. She also dedicated significant time to pro bono representation, including a landmark suit against the federal government to improve health care benefits to reduce veteran suicide.

Immediately after graduating from UT Law in 2000, Heather worked in the Legal Affairs Division of the World Trade Organization and obtained a master’s degree in public international law from The Graduate Institute in Geneva, Switzerland.

Heather earned a bachelor’s degree in in American Government from the University of Virginia and a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law. Heather lives in San Francisco with her husband, two sons, and a feisty beagle.
