Alma Diamond

Alma Diamond studies the role of social norms in legal doctrine and theory. Her scholarship spans contract law, jurisprudence, and constitutional theory, examining how structures like contracts and constitutions generate obligations and what this means for how judges reason and how doctrine develops. Her recent projects include work on the foreseeability rule in contract damages and on practice-based constitutional argument. At Texas Law, she teaches Contracts and courses in legal theory.

Diamond joined Texas Law in 2026 from the University of Michigan Law School, where she was a Faculty Fellow. Before that, she was the Law and Philosophy Fellow and a Lecturer in Law at the University of Chicago Law School. Her articles have appeared or are forthcoming in the Alabama Law Review, the Oregon Law Review, Law and Philosophy, Res Publica, and the Canadian Journal of Law and Jurisprudence, and she serves as a Contributing Editor of Jotwell's Jurisprudence section.

Diamond received a JSD and an LLM in legal theory from NYU School of Law, where she was awarded the David H. Moses Memorial Prize and served as a Senior Articles Editor of the NYU Review of Law & Social Change. She also holds an LLM in contract law (cum laude), an LLB, and a BCom (Hons) in economics from Stellenbosch University in South Africa.
