- Senior Lecturer
Jean Mangan joined Texas Law in August 2026 and teaches upper-level legal writing courses while also playing a role in bar support. She is passionate about each student directing his or her own learning, meeting his or her own definition of success, and transferring practical skills from the classroom to professional spaces.
Previously, Professor Mangan taught legal writing and related courses for eight years at the University of Georgia School of Law. While there, she taught nine different courses, including three that she created from inception. She also authored two open education resource textbooks for students—one focusing on first-year legal writing and the other on criminal law drafting—that remain free for anyone to access.

She served as a prosecutor, worked in two civil litigation practices, and served as the first staff attorney for the Wilbanks Child Endangerment and Sexual Exploitation Clinic. She is admitted to practice in all state courts in Georgia, the Middle and Northern Districts of Georgia, and the Supreme Court of the United States. Outside of the office, Professor Mangan spends time designing bespoke homeschool curricula for her two daughters, reading books of all kinds, attending theatrical productions, hiking and exploring with her family, taking road trips, and learning about…everything. When she retires, Professor Mangan halfway jokingly plans to go back to school to get several master’s degrees for fun. In the meantime, please send her book recommendations!
