Professor Mullenix delivered a paper entitled: "GRIDLAW: The Enduring Legacy of Phillips Petroleum Co. v. Shutts," as part of a symposium, "Class Actions and Due Process, The Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of Phillips Petroleum Co. v. Shutts," sponsored by the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Law. This article discusses and criticizes the way in which parties argue and make offers of proof on choice-of-law issues during the class certification process for multistate class actions. The article will be published in the U.M.K.C. Law Review, as part of its anniversary symposium.
