Keynote Address: Towards a Client-Centered Approach to Class Action and Complex Litigation Remedies

This keynote address to the Ontario Bar Association Class Action Section annual meeting discussed problems with attorney-focused class action representation, suggesting that often lawyers and judges lose sight of the goals on absent class members in the settlement of class action and other complex litigation. After identifying the problems with the current class and complex litigation remediation, the address offers an alternative that encourges attorneys and judges to become more client-centered in their effotrs to provide meaningful relief to individuals in the aggregate.
