Robert Pitman

The Hon. Robert Pitman '88 was appointed United States district judge by President Obama in 2014. Prior to his appointment, Pitman served as the United States attorney for the Western District of Texas and as a United States magistrate judge. Currently, Judge Pitman sits in the San Antonio, Austin, and Waco divisions of the Western District of Texas while teaching a seminar on federal criminal law as an adjunct professor.

Judge Pitman was appointed United States District Judge by President Obama in 2014. Prior to his appointment, Judge Pitman served as the United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas and as a United States Magistrate Judge. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, he earned his law degree from the University of Texas and a masters in law from the University of Oxford. Following law school, he clerked for U.S. District Judge David O. Belew in the Northern District of Texas. He then practiced as an associate at Fulbright & Jaworski before joining the U.S. Attorney’s office, where he prosecuted a wide variety of criminal cases. During his tenure as U.S. Attorney, Judge Pitman served on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee. Judge Pitman sits in the San Antonio, Austin and Waco Divisions of the Western District of Texas.
