    TX July '11 Bar Exam App Timely Deadline

    Reminder for 3Ls planning to sit for the Texas July 2011 Bar Exam: in order for your In-State Application to Take the TX Bar Exam to be considered timely-filed it must be postmarked by Jan. 30, 2011. This deadline is strictly enforced. A $150 late fee will apply for all applications filed after Jan. 30 and up to the March 30, 2011 absolute postmark deadline.

    Applicants who have not yet filed their Declaration of Intention to Study Law must do so prior to or with their In-State Application.

    PSCD Day I

    Hosted annually by the UT Law Career Services Office, Public Service Career Day (PSCD) is the largest public service job fair for law students in Texas. During both days of PSCD, which will be held February 3-4, 2011, public interest and government employers will conduct on-campus interviews for paid and unpaid summer and permanent positions in the Career Services Interview Suite. On Thursday, February 3, certain employers will also host informational tables in the Law School's Susman Godfrey Atrium from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

    First, second, third-year and/or LL.M. students and alumni up to one year after graduation from all nine Texas law schools are eligible to participate in this program. You must register to use the Texas Consortium Symplicity Module, which is a different module than the UT Law Symplicity.

Professor William Butler will be presenting a talk on the library of American Philosophical Society founder, Peter Stephen Du Ponceau. 2010 represented the 250 anniversary of the death of this fascinating lawyer and linguist.     DVSSN Spring All-members Meeting

    At this meeting:

    1) we will briefly talk about the help DVSSN has provided to survivors of domestic violence since last semester's wildly successful Pumpkins & Poker poker tournament; 2) we will talk about our up-coming Happy Hour fundraiser; 3) we will discuss advocacy, education, and outreach projects that are coming down the pipe-line; 4) we will ask for suggestions for this semester and beyond from all of you; and 5) we will be available to discuss openings in the board for those students who are interested in helping lead DVSSN next semester.

    Thank you for all your help this Fall with Pumpkins & Poker. We look forward to another great semester, helping to close the gap for domestic violence survivors in need and promoting the field of domestic violence law.

    Earth Summit 2012

    In May 2012, Presidents, Prime Ministers, and other leaders from throughout the world will gather in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.  The gathering will mark the 20th anniversary of the first  “Earth Summit” also in Rio in 1992, which saw the adoption of major treaties on climate change and biodiversity and Agenda 21 – a blueprint for sustainable development.    Mr.  Scherr will describe the current state of preparations for the 2012 Earth Summit and the prospects for making progress on the green economy and governance in our increasingly interconnected and globalized world.

    Applying for Judicial Clerkships-Part I

    This is the first of two mandatory meetings for 2Ls & 3Ls who will be applying for judicial clerkships. UT Law Judicial Clerkship Advisors will discuss how to determine what courts you are competitive for, how to select judges, and how and when to apply for clerkships.

    3Ls: For those of you who have already applied for clerkships, you do not need to attend this meeting. You should speak to your recommenders by late March to reaffirm their willingness to write letters or seek out new recommenders. You do not need to meet with a clerkship advisor unless you want to. However, you must attend the second mandatory meeting on April 5, 2011 to learn about the new application process.
