Events Calendar

Hosted annually by the UT Law Career Services Office, Public Service Career Day (PSCD) is the largest public service job fair for law students in Texas. Student bidding ends on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at noon.

During both days of PSCD, which will be held February 3-4, 2011, public interest and government employers will conduct on-campus interviews for paid and unpaid summer and permanent positions. On day one of the fair, certain employers will also host informational tables in the Law School's Susman Godfrey Atrium from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

First, second, third-year and/or LL.M. students and alumni up to one year after graduation from all nine Texas law schools are eligible to participate in this program. You must register to use the Texas Consortium Symplicity Module, which is a different module than the UT Law Symplicity.

Judicial internships are open to all students including 1Ls. There are hundreds of summer judicial internship opportunities available throughout the nation. You may be able to receive school credit if you intern for a federal district, federal appellate, or state appellate judge, including receiving three hours of credit for interning at the Texas Supreme Court, Court of Criminal Appeals, and the Third Court of Appeals. UT Law students and judicial advisors, will discuss their judicial internship experiences and how they secured their positions. Your Spring 2011 registration is not complete until you pay in full (or the first installment) by this deadline. To pay your tuition and fee bill, go to “My Tuition Bill”, or to pay in person, go to the Cashier’s Office in Main Building (Tower), Room 8, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Even if your tuition bill is zero ($0.00), you must still confirm your attendance before the payment deadline. Nothing is automatic. Whether you are paying directly, via financial aid, or via a third party (grants, scholarships, Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan, etc.), you must indicate that you will attend and/or arrange for payment. You must do this via the “My Tuition Bill” link prior to 5 p.m. on January 21 or risk cancellation of your course(s).

To verify your payment was received, go to the “My Tuition Bill” link. When your payment is posted, there will be a message on My Tuition Bill stating that your registration is complete.

Steven Schulman, Partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP (Washington, DC) and adjunct professor at the Stanford Law School and the Georgetown University Law Center will tell you how firms operate as well as how to make yourself indispensable. Steven Schulman, Pro Bono Partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP (Washington, DC) will discuss law firm pro bono programs and the importance of pro bono service in your legal career. Information on Akin Gump’s Pro Bono Scholars Program will also be provided. Akin Gump’s Pro Bono program is now available in Dallas, New York, and Washington, DC. Returning Members: Please join us for a brief welcome back meeting that will include instructions on our new class sign up procedure.

New Members: Street Law is an exciting opportunity to escape the law school grind by getting involved in the Austin community. Street Law sends UT law students into Austin public schools to teach practical lessons about law, democracy, and human rights. Our lessons range from basic constitutional law to teen dating violence.

We provide step-by-step, objective-driven lesson plans, teaching materials, and training. No prior teaching experience is required, and we welcome veteran teachers with open arms. All of our hour-long lessons are scheduled for Fridays and taught in groups of (3) Street Law Members. While you're only required to teach one lesson a semester, you may, of course, sign up for as many lessons as you would like.

In addition to our Street Law curriculum, we have developed a new mentorship program; interested members can volunteer to mentor a student at Webb Middle School.

Reminder for 3Ls planning to sit for the Texas July 2011 Bar Exam: in order for your In-State Application to Take the TX Bar Exam to be considered timely-filed it must be postmarked by Jan. 30, 2011. This deadline is strictly enforced. A $150 late fee will apply for all applications filed after Jan. 30 and up to the March 30, 2011 absolute postmark deadline.

Applicants who have not yet filed their Declaration of Intention to Study Law must do so prior to or with their In-State Application.
