Erin Rodgers, an attorney with Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts (TALA), and UT Law alum John Spong, who now writes for Texas Monthly Magazine, will be speaking on their careers in law and the arts. Professor David Sokolow will moderate the panel.

TALA is a non-profit organization that helps meet the legal and accounting needs of artists and arts nonprofits across the State of Texas by matching low-income artists and small budget arts nonprofits with volunteer attorneys and accountants to assist with arts-related legal and financial matters.

In 2010, John Spong was nominated for a National Magazine Award in the category of Leisure Interests for his story about Texas dance halls, “Step Right Up." He has been a finalist for the Texas Institute of Letters’ O. Henry Award for Magazine Journalism four times, which he won in 2006 for “The Good Book and the Bad Book” and again in 2010 for “Holding Garmsir.” He was also named 2005 Writer of the Year by the City and Regional Magazine Association.
