The Texas Journal on Civil Liberties and Civil Rights invites you to participate in its fall 2011 write-on competition. We are seeking 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls with outstanding writing and editing skills and a demonstrated interest in civil liberties and civil rights.

Applications can be picked up at the Circulation Desk starting Monday, August 29 or at the Student Organization Fair on Wednesday, August 31. Applications are due by 5:00pm on Friday, September 2, at 5:00pm to the TJCLCR box at the circulation desk.

Reminder for 3Ls planning to sit for the Texas February 2012 Bar Exam: in order for your In-State Application to Take the TX Bar Exam to be considered timely-filed it must be post-marked by today Aug. 30, 2011. This deadline is strictly enforced. A $150 late fee will apply for all applications filed after Aug. 30 and up to the Oct. 30, 2011 Absolute Postmark Deadline.

Applicants who have not yet filed their Declaration of Intention to Study Law must do so prior to or with their In-State Application.

The Student Organization Fair will be held on Wednesday, August 31 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the Atrium of the Law School--the Fair allows organizations to advertise and inform law students, especially 1Ls, about their groups.

Food, cokes, and journal folks will be meeting for our Fall EIC/ME meeting for new and prospective EIC’s/ME’s. Food and cokes/drinks will be provided. Ambassador Ronald K. McMullen, Diplomat in Residence at the LBJ School of Public Affairs, will speak about foreign service career opportunities, including those with the U.S. Department of State. This will be an informal event with a chance for you to ask your own questions on the topic. The State Department offers nearly 900 internships each summer, both in Washington and abroad. To qualify, applicants must be U.S. citizens and plan to be enrolled in the semester following their internship, i.e., in the Fall 2013 semester. All are welcomed to apply, including speakers of hard languages, veterans, people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, first-generation college students, women, and individuals who have overcome significant obstacles to get where they are.
