Come see what the Women's Law Caucus is up to this year next Tuesday, September 13th at 5:00 pm in TNH 2.124. We will host a happy hour at Crown & Anchor immediately following.

At the meeting, we will review our upcoming events for the year, allow new and returning members to sign up and pay their $35 yearly dues, and give members the opportunity to run for a 1L Rep position. The Career Services Office invites UT Law students and faculty to visit with both Dean Sager and employers who will be participating in Public Service Table Talk. Breakfast will be held from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Sheffield Room. Public Service Table Talk will be held in the Susman Godfrey Atrium from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and is open to all UT Law students.

Please join us in welcoming public service organizations to our campus and sharing information on new developments within the UT Law public service community. We also hope to exchange ideas on creating more opportunities for students to serve the public.

The Federalist Society is proud to host Cato Institute Fellow and CNN Contributor Ilya Shapiro. Mr. Shapiro will be giving a speech on his expertise, Comparative Constitutionalism and the Rule of Law. Prof. Levinson will be debating him. Food will be served after the event.

Beyond Any Bar, the law student association for students considering a nontraditional careers, is hosting a speaker panel to discuss their path to a successful nontraditional career. If you are thinking that a law firm might not be the best place for you, come hear why you are right! The four panelists are representative of many of our alumni that have used their legal education to succeed in other careers.

Dan Graham (JD ’05) the CEO and co-founder of BuildASign.com. Dan co-founded BuildASign.com in his 3L year, in 2005. Since then the company has become a $30+ million company, with over 160 employees.

Kathy Richardson (JD ‘95) a Principal at HR Legal Search. She is an attorney search consultant. She places partners and associates at law firms as well as attorneys at various levels within in-house legal departments, including general counsel.

Neal Cukerbaum (JD ’77) the President of Sandler Southwest Corporation. Neal is a real estate developer, and he has been responsible for the development of more than 100 commercial real estate properties.

Robert Mayfield (JD ’72) the President of R.U.M. Enterprises. Robert founded his company and has grown it to 98 employees and six area locations.

SHAKESPEARE AND THE LAW: SCENES AND A PANEL ON LEGAL ISSUES FROM THE TEMPEST

Actors from Spirit of Shakespeare, a University of Texas student organization, will perform scenes from The Tempest as part of a panel discussion titled “Usurpation and Colonization: Shakespeare’s The Tempest,” on Thursday, September 22, 2011, in the Eidman Courtroom at the University of Texas School of Law from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Department of English at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas School of Law. A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Jamail Pavilion adjacent to the Eidman Courtroom in the Law School’s John B. Connally Center. (See Maps and Directions.) The panel, which includes the performance, starts at 7:00 p.m.

This year, four panelists will discuss legal and related issues central to The Tempest. They are: Angela K. Littwin, Assistant Professor at the University of Texas School of Law; James Loehlin, director of Shakespeare at Winedale and professor of English at the University of Texas at Austin; Robert Matney, actor, Austin Shakespeare, and graduate of the Shakespeare at Winedale progra; and Alan Friedman, professor of English, coordinator of Actors from the London Stage, and faculty advisor for Spirit of Shakespeare (SOS), a group of University of Texas students dedicated to promoting Shakespeare programs on campus and in the community.

For several years now, the SOS players have performed scenes from the annual Actors from the London Stage (AFTLS) play and have helped to augment and elucidate the Shakespeare and the Law panel discussions.

Shakespeare and the Law grew out of the AFTLS residency, a regular part of the University’s Shakespeare offerings since 1999, and a conference on “The Law and Other Performing Arts” held at the Law School in 2002. AFTLS, a London-based theatrical touring company, brings its unique educational and theatrical program, which features a troupe of five classically trained actors from major English theaters, to this campus and city for week-long residencies every year.

This year’s weeklong AFTLS residency begins September 26, 2011, with performances of The Tempest at UT’s B. Iden Payne Theatre running from Wednesday September 28 to Friday September 30, at 7:30 p.m. Purchase tickets from Texas Performing Arts online ticket office. On Saturday October 1, 2001 at 7:00 p.m, the play will be performed at the Winedale Historical Center in Round Top, Texas.
