The Power Lunch Series is designed to teach women law students in journal and student organization leadership positions the meaning of organizational power, and provide them with an understanding of how to gain and utilize that power in an effective and positive manner to achieve career success.

What does 'for the general welfare' mean today? Professor Forbath will be tackling this question during a live, nationwide webinar as part of the American Constitution Society's series on constitutional interpretation. Focusing on economic and social rights, he will discuss a reform-minded, distributive tradition of constitutional law and politics.

After the national address, Professor Forbath will continue the discussion with those students and faculty in attendance. Tiff's Treats and other refreshments will be provided.

Join students and law schools across the country in a live streaming-video conversation with Attorney General Eric Holder about what can be done to increase access to justice. This online video conversation or “watch party” will also feature public service champions who are being honored by the White House. The event aims to encourage law students to think of new ways to use their degrees to help secure basic rights for all Americans. Jaime Spellings, General Tax Counsel for ExxonMobil, will be at the law school on Friday, October 14, to speak to students interested in a career in energy tax. Mr. Spellings will also discuss summer internship opportunities as well as entry level jobs in the tax department. Mr. Spellings and a colleague taught Oil and Gas Tax last spring and will be teaching it again during the Spring 2012 semester.

Business and Professional People for the Public Interest (BPI) offers the Polikoff-Gautreaux Fellowship, an exceptional fellowship opportunity for a recent law or public policy graduate. One of the country’s foremost public interest law and policy centers, BPI seeks out and addresses compelling issues of social justice and quality of life in the Chicago region. Currently BPI works to preserve and increase affordable housing, transform public housing, improve Chicago’s public schools, and promote open and honest government in Illinois.

Are you working as an RA for a law school professor this year? Are you interested in working as an RA in the future? Do you want to brush up on your research skills, even if you are not an RA? To help you hit the ground running, the Tarlton Law Library is offering special research training for law students who are or may be RAs. All students are welcome to attend. The class is scheduled for Friday, October 14 at 1 p.m. in Tarlton’s Computer Learning Center on the library’s third floor.

We will explain research techniques for resources most requested by faculty, including how to find e-journals and link directly to their text though our TALLONS catalog and how to find electronic journals and databases that are offered through the UT General Libraries. We will also go over administrative details like how to check out materials for faculty from various UT libraries and how to request an item from interlibrary loan. And we will be available to answer any questions you may have about library research, whether for yourself or your faculty member.
