    Human Rights Happy Hour: Jorge Contesse

    Please join us for the first event in our spring Human Rights Happy Hour Speaker Series. Professor Jorge Contesse of the Universidad Diego Portales in Chile will present a talk entitled “Inter-American Constitutionalism: The Creation and Internalization of Human Rights.” The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Monday, February 20th, from 3:30-5:30pm, in TNH 3.142 at the University of Texas School of Law. Daniel Brinks, Associate Professor of Government and Co-Director of the Rapoport Center, will serve as a respondent to his talk.

    The Texas Law Review has partnered with Professor Henry T.C. Hu to host a symposium focused on the landscape of modern capital markets and corporations. The symposium, Reshaping Capital Markets and Institutions: Twenty Years On, will take place in Austin, Texas on February 24–25, 2012.

    Envisioned as a follow-up to Texas Law Review’s groundbreaking 1991 symposium issue on financial innovation, also in partnership with Professor Hu, this event will bring together exceptional academics, practitioners, and regulators to present papers examining various elements of the current financial landscape.

    This multidisciplinary and comparative conference will explore the ambivalent relationship between human rights and property and the extent to which the right to property might advance a human rights agenda. An impressive array of scholars from Africa, Latin America, South Asia, and the United States will provide comparative perspectives on such topics as changing conceptions of property, the role of property rights in dispossession and redistribution, and the implications of private titling.
