    Judicial Internships

    This program provides information about judicial internships during school term, in either the fall or spring. Even if you attended the previous panel on summer judicial internships, we encourage you to take advantage of this program to visit directly with judges and judicial staff over lunch about what interns do in their courts and why judicial internships are valuable. Attendees includes the Honorable Lee Yeakel and his staff attorney Kathryn Baffes, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas; the Honorable Christopher Mott and his staff attorney Sarah McHaney, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas; Administrative Law Judges Tommy Broyles and Craig Bennett, State Office of Administrative Hearings; Martha Newton, Liz Kozlow, and Jason Nichols, staff attorneys, Supreme Court of Texas; and Anna Dowe, staff attorney, Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

    Delta Theta Phi hosts Judge Lee Yeakel

    Judge Yeakel will be speaking to the student body on his perspective on clerkships, as well as his recent trip to Cuba where he was sent as an emissary for the US.

    A reception will be held afterwards in the Jamail Pavilion for Delta Theta Phi members to visit with Judge Yeakel and other noted alumni.

    Join Professor Philip Postlewaite, the Director of the Tax Program at Northwestern University School of Law, to learn more about Northwestern's LL.M. in Taxation Program in Chicago, Illinois.     Patton Boggs Fellowship Deadline

    The Patton Boggs Foundation is pleased to contribute a fellowship worth $5,000 to support a UT Law student who has completed either his/her first or second year of law school and will be working on public policy and related matters for a government agency, international organization or nonprofit public interest organization. A preference will be given to veterans of the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars and students pursuing public service opportunities with organizations focused on business-related public policy issues, including economic development, banking, finance, community development, property and tax.

    To apply for the Fellowship, please provide a copy of your resume and a statement of interest detailing: what organization you will be working for; the type of work you anticipate you will be doing this summer; and the length of your internship; e.g., ten weeks; and whether the internship is paid/funded. Also include a list of other funding opportunities that you've applied for this summer. Applications should be submitted to Nicole Simmons, Public Interest Career Counselor, at nsimmons@law.utexas.edu by Wednesday, March 21, 2012.

    3L Early Bar Prep - Evidence

    The bar exam includes 200 multiple choice questions in six basic areas of law, including Evidence. In this session, students will review basic portions of Evidence law in preparation for the July Bar exam. Students will also answer sample bar questions on Evidence, using skills learned in earlier sessions.

    Beyond Any Bar presents its first “The Career Path Less Traveled” Speaker Panel - Consulting & Oil & Gas Exploration

    Beyond Any Bar, the law student association for students considering nontraditional careers, is hosting a speaker panel to discuss paths to a successful nontraditional career in business and community consulting, and oil, gas, and mineral land exploration and production. If you are thinking that a law firm might not be the best place for you, come hear why you are right! The three panelists are representative of many of our alumni that have used their legal education to succeed in other careers.

    Expanding Fair Housing Opportunities

    Elizabeth Julian (UT Law ’73), Director of the Inclusive Communities Project in Dallas and former Deputy General Counsel of HUD, will speak about housing segregation and innovative tools being used in the Dallas region to provide low income minority families with better access to good schools and healthy neighborhoods.     Leadership Boot Camp

    The Leadership Boot Camp is a limited enrollment, all-day, intensive workshop for 2Ls, 3Ls, judicial clerks, and LL.M. students. Expert trainers will deliver lectures in effective communication, self-promotion, and networking. Following each lecture, students will work in interactive small groups of four to six students with two faculty members (distinguished attorneys from across Texas) to perfect these skills and receive individualized critiques.
