    Lunch with a Law Professor

    Listen to Professor Owen Anderson discuss career prospects and current trends in natural resource law in a relaxed setting. Professor Anderson is a Visiting Professor of Law at The University of Texas School of Law. He is also the Eugene Kuntz Chair in Oil, Gas & Natural Resources and the George Lynn Cross Research Professor at the University of Oklahoma College of Law where he has taught since 1992.

    Preparing for Public Service Internships

    In the first hour, learn the tips and tools you’ll need to succeed in your summer internship whether you’re working in a government agency or public interest organization. Panelists include Bill Beardall, Executive Director of the Equal Justice Center and Director of the Transnational Workers Rights Clinic at UT Law; Mark Levy, Assistant Attorney General, Office of the Texas Attorney General-Antitrust Division; and Tina Fernandez, Director of Pro Bono Programs at UT Law.

    At 4:30 p.m., speak with Tarlton Law Librarians about legal research strategies for summer assignments. They’ll discuss options for places to research, what questions to ask when you receive an assignment, and best practices for deciding where to start your research. Examples of actual summer assignments from students who worked in public interest jobs will be presented.

    Patent Bar Exam Info Session

    Practising Law Institute (PLI) invites you to a presentation by Mark Dighton, PLI's Director of Law School Relations and a Director of their Patent Bar Review Course. Topics for discussion include the latest info on the Patent Bar Exam and who can take it; how it works, now that it's on computer; when you should take it (you only need an undergraduate degree to sit for it); how and when the America Invents Act will impact the Exam, and; recommendations on when and how to study for the Patent Exam. Scholarships to PLI's other IP programs will also be discussed.

    UT Law students with an undergraduate degree (or at least about two years of coursework) in engineering, computer sciences or the hard sciences (chemistry, biology, physics, some related fields), who are interested in becoming a Patent Agent or Attorney, are invited to attend.
