    40-Hour Basic Mediation

    This intensive five-day program is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to mediate a variety of everyday disputes.     Human Rights 101: Part II

    Human Rights Law Society is putting on, for the general body, their second educational event on the basics of Human Rights Law.

    Daniel M. Brinks, Associate Professor at UT and Co-Director of the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice, will be narrowing in on a category of Human Rights, talking specifically about Economic, Social, and Cultural rights.

    Professor Brinks' research focuses on the role of the law and courts in supporting or extending human rights and many of the basic rights associated with democracy, with a primary regional interest in Latin America. Professor Brinks was born and raised in Argentina and practiced law in the U.S. for nearly ten years before turning to academia. He holds a PhD from the University of Notre Dame and a JD from the University of Michigan.

    3Ls planning to sit for the Texas July 2013 Bar Exam can now submit their In-State Application to Take the TX Bar Exam. The timely postmark deadline is Jan. 30. A $150 late fee will apply for all applications filed after Jan. 30 and up to the Mar. 30 absolute postmark deadline.

    Applicants who have not yet filed their Declaration of Intention to Study Law must do so prior to or with their In-State Application.

    Judicial Internships: Great Summer Jobs

    UT Law students will discuss their summer judicial internship experiences and how they secured their positions. Summer judicial internships are open to all students, including 1Ls. There are hundreds of summer judicial internship opportunities available throughout the nation and early December is a good time to begin sending out your applications. Three hours of academic credit is available through the UT Law Judicial Internship Program for internships with federal district, federal appellate, or state appellate judges who agree to participate in the UT Law program.

    Panelists include the following 2Ls who interned with judges last summer: Garrett Martin, who interned for Judge Crone (U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas); Adam Prom, who interned for Magistrate Judge Gorence (U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin); Kelsie Krueger, who interned for Judge Keasler (Texas Court of Criminal Appeals) and Judge G. Miller (U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas); and Carlos Mejias, who interned for Justice Lehrmann (Supreme Court of Texas). Moderated by Professor Mary Crouter, who directs the UT Law Judicial Internship Program.
