Steven Schulman, Pro Bono Partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP (Washington, DC) will discuss law firm pro bono programs and Akin Gump’s Pro Bono Scholars Program. The Pro Bono Scholars Program is a two-year program for outstanding law students who want to make pro bono work an important part of their law firm careers. This program allows students to gain valuable work experience with both pro bono and commercial clients. During the first summer, scholars receive a $20,000 stipend while spending at least seven weeks at a public interest organization of their choice, and three weeks at an Akin Gump office (Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York or Washington, D.C.) assisting with pro bono cases and being paid a summer associate salary. During the second summer, the Pro Bono Scholars are part of the firm’s summer associate program, which will include a commercial workload as well as pro bono opportunities. The Pro Bono Scholars Program will take place in our Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. offices. For more information and how to apply, visit the Akin Gump’s Pro Bono Scholars Program website.

Boxed lunches will be served and are sponsored by Akin Gump. Co-sponsored by the UT Law Pro Bono Program and the Career Services Office.
