    Closing the Educational Achievement Gap

Building on the Justice Center’s education-directed pro bono initiatives and law students’ interest in education reform, the conference will focus on the law as a tool to close the educational achievement gap, with a special focus on Texas. Closing the achievement gap requires a multi-faceted approach that addresses issues at the community, school, and policy levels. This conference, aimed at education reformers, lawyers, educators, policy makers, scholars, and students, will explore ongoing efforts to close the achievement gap as well as possible future initiatives. Morning panels will address education reform efforts through government and legislative action and litigation. The lunchtime keynote will be followed by an afternoon panel for students and young lawyers on building a legal career focused on addressing the achievement gap. The conference will conclude with an informal reception.
