    PILA Potluck

Join the Public Interest Law Association Tuesday, November 5th at 7:00PM for our monthly Potluck. PILA potlucks offer an opportunity to hear from professors and practitioners about their public interest career paths as well as from representatives from other public interest student organizations. Speakers for this potluck are Amelia Ruiz-Fischer with Texas Civil Rights Project to talk about her work battling Secure Communities and Dal Ruggles to talk about the realities of handling criminal court appointments (adult, juvenile, and appellate) as part of a private practice.

There is no better way to get plugged in to the public interest community than to attend PILA Potlucks!

PILA will provide the main meal and drinks, but bring an additional side dish, drinks, or dessert.

Need a ride? We are setting up a carpool for those of you who don’t have transportation from and back to campus. Contact sarahpbryant@gmail.com to get your name on the carpool list.

Location: 1175 Graham, Austin, Texas 78702.

Note on parking: My neighbors will thank you if you can park your car on Walnut Avenue (beside the Baptist church or behind the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex). My house is the fourth one on the right on Graham Street.

Gibbs & Bruns Moot Court Final Round

On behalf of the Board of Advocates and the Gibbs & Bruns Moot Court Tournament, we'd like to invite you to attend the final round to be held at 1:30 on Friday, November 8th, in the Eidman Courtroom. Gibbs & Bruns has kindly provided experienced attorneys to judge the round, and we plan to have a small reception afterwards to allow students the opportunity to chat with them and enjoy some treats. We will also be announcing the winners of the best oral advocate and best memorandum prizes.

Finals will be David Lindsay vs. Richard Smith.

This year's tournament has been based on an actual Texas Supreme Court case, Hamrick v. Ward, which centers on the the issue of whether there is a continuing necessity requirement for easements implied by prior use.

We hope you will be able to join us and support the competitors!
