    TJWL publishes twice during the academic year. Each publication includes a combination of three or four articles, notes, and/or comments. Preference for publication is given to student notes written by TJWL staff members.

    Staff members have the opportunity to take part in more than simple cite-checking. As a member of TJWL, you may take advantage of opportunities to edit, work directly with authors, select materials for publication, and work on non-publication projects.

    Paul Wright, founder of the Human Rights Defense Center and editor of Prison Legal News, and his colleagues at Human Rights Defense Center will speak on first amendment rights of publishers and prisoners. They have litigated a wide variety of censorship and public records cases against prison systems around the country – most recently against Comal county jail and Upshur county jail in Texas.

    EJW - Application Period Closes

    The Equal Justice Works Conference & Career Fair is one of the largest public service job fairs in the country and will take place October 24-25, 2014 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Bethesda, MD. The Career Fair features both preselected interviews and informational interviews.

    Online application period closes on Tuesday, September 16, at 5 p.m. for those applying for preselected interviews. For those students who are not seeking an interview and may want to attend the conference workshops and Table Talk only, you may register September 17-October 10, 2014.

    Due to NALP guidelines, 1Ls are not eligible to interview with employers during the Equal Justice Works Career Fair. However, 1Ls may informally talk to employers during Table Talk on Friday and Saturday, and may also apply for the travel sponsorship below.

    Dean Farnsworth has generously agreed to sponsor airfare for several current law students to attend the Equal Justice Works Conference & Career Fair. To apply for a travel sponsorship, please submit your resume, unofficial law transcript, and a brief essay (no more than two pages) describing why you would like to attend the Fair and why you need sponsorship. If you have applied for interviews, please mention that as well. Submit your sponsorship application materials to Nicole Simmons at cso-lclp@law.utexas.edu or drop them off in the CSO (TNH 3.130) no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2014.

    Join ACS and Professor William Forbath to celebrate the 227th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution. We will have snacks!

    Progressives have largely forgotten how to think and talk about the constitutional underpinnings for addressing want and inequity in American society. The present challenge for progressives is to assert a constitutional vision of a national government empowered to promote the general welfare. Such is the position of Texas Law’s own Professor Forbath, and we will be discussing these propositions on the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. Come after lunch for something sweet to eat.

    The Border Crisis: Unaccompanied Minors

    Join ACS for a lunchtime panel discussing the humanitarian crisis occurring at our nation's border. Panelists include: Ed Gallagher, Deputy Criminal Chief for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas; Jonathan Ryan, Executive Director of Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES); and Alfonso Gonzales, Assistant Professor at the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies at The University of Texas at Austin. Our panel, moderated by Texas Law professor and director of the Immigration Clinic, Barbara Hines, will share insights about the origins of this crisis and where we go from here.
