    40-Hour Basic Mediation training

    This intensive five-day program is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to mediate a variety of everyday disputes. This course emphasizes the importance of practical experience in becoming an effective mediator. During frequent role-plays, each participant will mediate a variety of disputes with expert feedback.

    This course is designed to satisfy the 40 classroom hours of training required to mediate court-referred disputes as indicated in the Texas Alternative Dispute Resolution Act § 154.052, Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code Ann. This course also meets the Texas Mediator Trainers Roundtable's requirements.

    What you will learn: •General principles of the mediation process •Identification and practice of communication skills used by mediators •Introduction to the negotiation process including methods and styles of negotiation •Ethical considerations associated with mediation •Your mediation technique - one day of videotaping mock mediations for purposes of providing constructive feedback to the participants •Application of mediation techniques in complex multi-party disputes

    Professor Sokolow will present a session entitled “Legal Analysis: Remedies Under the UCC” for 1Ls currently taking Contracts and working with the UCC. The session is a great explanation of remedies and how to analyze problems; students continually find the session to be incredibly helpful.

    PSCF - Registration & Bidding Open

    Registration and bidding for the 2015 Public Service Career Fair (PSCF) opens on Wednesday December 10, 2014 at noon. PSCF is the largest public service job fair for law students in Texas. During both days of the fair, public interest and government employers will conduct interviews for paid and unpaid summer and permanent positions. Employers may request to interview first, second, third-year and LL.M. students and/or alumni up to one year after graduation from nine participating Texas law schools.

    You must register to use the Texas Consortium Symplicity Module, which is a different module than the Texas Law's Symplicity. Go to the Texas Consortium Symplicity Module. Click on the [Register] tab. Please fill in the requested information on your profile. When completed, click the [Submit] button.     40 Years of Immigration Challenges

    Panel discussions will address current immigration issues and offer a retrospective look at major immigration litigation and advocacy efforts over the last 40 years, through the lense of Barbara Hines' career.
