Learn about career paths in indigent defense in jurisdictions outside of Texas that have nationally recognized public defender programs. Attorneys who wish to build careers representing low-income people accused of criminal offenses often start their careers in public defender offices that offer structured training.

Panelists will discuss their careers and the public defender programs for which they have worked, and offer advice on how to prepare for and obtain a job with a public defender office. Panelists include Ruth Rosenthal, ’10, Senior Associate with the Pew Charitable Trusts and former Trial Attorney with the Colorado State Public Defender; Chris Roberts, Assistant Public Defender with the Public Defender Service of D.C.; and Trudy Strassburger, Deputy Director with the Capital Area Private Defender Service in Austin and former Team Lead Attorney with The Bronx Defenders. Moderated by Raoul Schonemann, Co-Director and Clinical Professor of the Texas Law Capital Punishment Clinic.

Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP by Wednesday, Feb. 11, on Symplicity by selecting the 'Events' tab.
