    Townes Hall Morning Coffee

    On Monday, January 26th, Jones Day and the Texas Law Alumni Association is pleased to announce that it will kick off its Spring 2015 Townes Hall Morning Coffee for all students every Monday morning. Please bring your favorite travel mug from home (we are “going green,” so no paper products will be provided) and enjoy FREE coffee every Monday morning to start off your week on behalf of Jones Day and the Alumni Association. Coffee will be located at one, large station located near the 1L Classrooms (by TNH 2.140, TNH 2.139, etc.) beginning at 8:45 am.

    Public Interest Postgraduate Fellowships

    Learn about some of the more popular project-based fellowships obtained by Texas Law graduates. You’ll learn about the application process and strategies for putting together a competitive fellowship application. Panelists include Meredith Parekh ‘11, Staff Attorney with Disability Rights Texas and former Skadden Foundation fellow; Tovah Pentelovitch, 3L and 2015 Equal Justice Works Fellow with Texas RioGrande Legal Aid; and Sofia Meissner, 3L and 2015 UT Law Justice Corps Fellow with Human Rights First. Moderated by Nicole Simmons, Director of Public Service Programs, Career Services Office.

    KBH Energy Center Distinguished Lecture

    Joseph B. C. Fitzsimmons, partner, Uhl, Fitzsimons, Jewett & Burton, PLLC, will give a KBH Energy Center Distinguished Lecture from 12-1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Mr. Fitzsimons a natural resources, oil and gas and water law attorney and third-generation South Texas rancher. From 2001-2007, Mr. Fitzsimons was on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission. For his KBH Energy Center Distinguished Lecture, Mr. Fitzsimons will give an overview of some of the key issues that landowners and oil and gas companies deal with in Texas and the challenges that accompany the presence of endangered species on the land, as well as other environmental concerns. He will also speak about his practice and his experience as chair of TPWD.

    Bar Exam Boot Camp

    3Ls and LLMs are invited to get a jump on studying for the bar with these skills based sessions. Learn how to effectively write bar exam essay answers. TX bar questions will be used as examples. Sessions take place on Tuesdays at noon in TNH 2.124 and repeat Thursday at noon in TNH 2.124. This is a four week series, which builds on the exercise from the previous week.

    LRAP Informational Session

    Are you considering opportunities in government service or public interest law? The UT Law Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP), administered by the William Wayne Justice Center for Public Interest Law, provides financial assistance to graduates with educational debt who enter qualifying public service. The UT Law LRAP, coupled with the new federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness and Income Based Repayment programs, will significantly help graduates in public service repay their educational debt.

    Eden Harrington, Director of the Justice Center, will present basic information about Texas Law LRAP and answer questions about it. Thursday, April 9, 2015, 8:39-9:30 am, Sheffield-Massey Room, breakfast provided

    1Ls: Come learn about judicial clerkships - what they are, why you should clerk, and what you need to be doing now to best position yourself to apply during your 2L year. If you are at all interested in a judicial clerkship, you should definitely come to this program. Panelists include Justice Jane Bland, Texas First Court of Appeals; Judge Robert Pitman, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas; and Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
