    TMLS: Chicken & Waffles Fundraiser

The TMLS Southern Comfort Chicken & Waffles Fundraiser is a food-based event designed to cater to UT law students, faculty, and visitors. This fundraiser is about more than raising money; as there are easier and cheaper ways to do so. This fundraiser is also about creating a noticeable presence within the UT community by facilitating a meaningful interaction with the general law school population. For these reasons, it is our hope that this fundraiser will further our commitment to serving all UT law students, faculty, and staff.

Disclaimer: The money raised by this event will be deposited into to the Thurgood Marshall Legal Society's discretionary-spending account. Thus, TMLS reserves the right to allocate these funds towards the following: general body meetings, the TMLS annual banquet speaker, or catering.

Lives in the Law: Michael Allen

11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. in the Eidman Courtroom and 12:45-1:45 p.m. in the Jury Room.

Civil rights attorney Michael Allen will speak from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. on "Dismantling Segregation: Increasing Opportunity Through Fair Housing," in the Eidman Courtroom. Mr. Allen, a partner at Relman, Dane & Colfax, in Washington, D.C., represents individuals and organizations in cases and matters under the Fair Housing Act and related civil rights laws. A significant part of his practice is focused on the obligation to "affirmatively further fair housing," and he has brought successful cases under the False Claims Act and by way of administrative complaints to enforce that obligation. Prior to joining Relman, Dane & Colfax, Mr. Allen was Senior Staff Attorney at the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law. He previously was an attorney with Legal Services of Northern Virginia, with a focus on representing low-income clients in housing litigation and policy advocacy.
