    Battling for Immigrants’ Rights

3:30 pm to 5 pm in the Eidman Courtroom - reception to follow in the Jamail Pavilion

Join us for a talk by Lucas Guttentag on developments in immigration since the passage of the Immigration Act of 1965 and his experiences battling for immigrants’ rights as a litigator and advocate and, of late, inside government.

Guttentag is the founder and former national director of the ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project, who is currently serving in the Obama administration as Senior Counselor to the Director of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services at the Department of Homeland Security, on leave from his positions at Yale and Stanford Law Schools. Guttentag is also a former law clerk to Judge William Wayne Justice, and his talk will kick off the 10th anniversary celebration for the William Wayne Justice Center for Public Interest Law.

Guttentag’s visit as a G. Rollie White Public Interest Scholar is supported by a generous gift from the G. Rollie White Trust. The program brings outstanding legal scholars, practitioners and advocates from the field of public service to Texas Law to foster discussion of issues related to public interest law, to raise the profile of lawyers working in this area, and to encourage students to view public service as an honored and expected part of every legal career. Guttentag is Texas Law’s fourth G. Rollie White Public Interest Scholar.
