    Please join the Student Affairs Office and the Society Program for the Texas Law First Generation Student Lunch and Panel Discussion. Five of your Dean's Fellows will be on hand to discuss their experiences as first generation students, either as the first in their family to graduate college or the first in their family to attend law school. Topics will include: preparing for final exams, getting ready for the summer job search, and strategies for the Thanksgiving holiday.

    Annual Celebrate Pro Bono Luncheon

    Featured Speakers:

    Susanne Pringle, Interim Executive Director, Texas Fair Defense Project

    The Mithoff Program will continue its tradition of highlighting successful pro bono collaborations between nonprofit organizations and private law firms during the Celebrate Pro Bono Luncheon, an annual event held in conjunction with the American Bar Association’s National Pro Bono Celebration. This year’s luncheon panel will highlight O’Donnell v. Harris County, a successful challenge to a pretrial detention system that jailed individuals accused of misdemeanor offenses because they could not afford to pay monetary bail. Susman Godfrey and TFDP, along with the Civil Rights Corps, represent the plaintiff class in O’Donnell and obtained a preliminary injunction striking down wealth-based detention for lower-level offenses. As a result of the injunction, which went into effect in June 2017, more than 2,500 people have been released on personal bond.

    Hosted by the Student Bar Association, Ex Parte is an annual, off-campus Halloween party open to all law students and their guests.
