    Learn about summer and term-time intern opportunities at the Texas Legal Services Center. The Center provides free attorney representation and legal advice to low-income Texans, as well as assistance and training to poverty law advocates and their clients in the areas of litigation support, education, and communication.     L.B. Eisen, "Inside Private Prisons"

    Please join the Rapoport Center for an event featuring Lauren-Brooke "L.B" Eisen, Senior Counsel in the Brennan Center’s Justice Program at NYU Law. Eisen focuses on improving the criminal justice process through legal reforms, specifically how the criminal justice system is funded. Eisen is the author of "Inside Private Prisons: An American Dilemma in the Age of Mass Incarceration," which was published by Columbia University Press (2017).

    Public Service Career Fair (Day I)

    Hosted annually by the Texas Law Career Services Office, Public Service Career Fair (PSCF) is the largest public service job fair for law students in Texas. During both days of PSCF, which will be held February 1-2, 2018, public interest and government employers will conduct on-campus interviews for paid and unpaid summer and permanent positions in the Career Services Interview Suite and around the rest of the law school. On Thursday, February 1, certain employers will also host informational tables in the Law School's Susman Godfrey Atrium from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

    Professional Development Institute

    The Texas Law Professional Development Institute: Prepared For Practice is taught by industry experts and practicing attorneys, covering facets of new attorney professionalism most sought after by legal employers. It is promoted widely to employers, many of whom contributed to the content of the program.

    Whether you're a 1L preparing for your first summer clerkship or the fall recruiting season, a 2L working to turn your summer clerkship or fellowship into an offer, or a graduating 3L getting a head start on your legal career, the Texas Law Professional Development Institute (PDI), which is presented each Spring, will help you be a more competitive candidate and a better lawyer.

    Online registration will open at noon on January 4, and close at 5 p.m. on January 12, 2018 and will be awarded on a first-come basis. Please note that 2Ls and 3Ls who attended last year may sign up for this year’s Institute.

    Public Service Loan Forgiveness

    On Friday, February 2, Heather Jarvis will be speaking about "Public Service Loan Forgiveness in Five Easy Steps" during lunch from noon-1:15 p.m. as part of the Public Service Career Fair. Many government and nonprofit professionals stand to gain tens of thousands of dollars of student debt relief from the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program established by the College Cost Reduction and Access Act. But the program requirements can be confusing. Heather knows how to break it down step-by-step so it makes sense once and for all. She'll also be discussing the Pay As You Earn Repayment Plan.

In the subfield of cross-border insolvency, Professor Westbrook is probably the world’s leading expert. The Symposium’s contributors, a diverse group of preeminent scholars from across the country and world, will present original scholarship that builds upon Professor Westbrook’s research and engages with the central questions in debtor-creditor law today. The Symposium will focus on four areas in which Professor Westbrook reshaped the field: consumer bankruptcy in the U.S., comparative consumer bankruptcy, U.S. business bankruptcy, and international insolvency. It will feature a half day on consumer bankruptcy and a full day on business bankruptcy, concluding with a roundtable of distinguished lawyers that will lead a conversation from the floor of the symposium’s international topics.

    Barrister's Ball

    The Student Bar Association will be holding the annual law school-wide Barrister's Ball from 8 pm–12 am at the Bob Bullock Museum. Tickets will be sold the week leading up to the event for $45 and for $55 at the door. Each ticket includes 4 drink tickets and access to the chicken & waffles and vegetable frittata buffet. We will also have a photo booth and live band. Dress is formal. See you there!
