The True Extent of Executive Power

Please join the Texas Federalist Society for a debate regarding President Trump's aggressive use of presidential power and whether such use exceeds the Founders' original designs. In his new book, Defender in Chief, John Yoo (Emanuel S. Heller Professor of Law; Co-Faculty Director, Korea Law Center; and Director, Public Law & Policy Program, UC Berkeley School of Law) argues that Trump - despite his populism - has become more often the defender rather than the opponent of the original Constitution. In The Living Presidency, Sai Prakash (James Monroe Distinguished Professor of Law and Paul G. Mahoney Research Professor of Law, University of Virginia School of Law) counters that Trump, like many modern Presidents, has violated the Constitution's grant of executive power.

The first 50 Texas Law students to register will receive a $10 redemption code for DoorDash to enjoy a meal during the event.

Note: Registration is not required to attend any of the Texas Federalist Society's virtual events this semester; it is only required for each event if you would like to make use of the DoorDash discount.

    Ex Parke

In lieu of our usual Bar Review, SBA will be hosting a weekly Ex Parke this semester on Thursday evenings! This is a great opportunity to meet students from other 1L sections as well as other class years. Each week we will visit a park for an outdoor, socially-distanced hangout. There will be blankets spread out so students can meet up in groups of no more than 10. We kindly ask that you arrive close to the assigned time for your class year in the schedule below. You are welcome to stay longer than 30 minutes, but this schedule should help keep us from having too many people showing up at once. Although we will be off-campus, City of Austin and Zilker Park rules still apply. This requires wearing a mask, maintaining 6 feet of distance from others, congregating in groups of no more than 10, and no alcoholic beverages. Masks are required at all times unless you are snacking in an area we will designate. Where: Zilker Park near the "Rock Island" (2207 Lou Neff Rd, Austin, TX 78746) When: Thursday, September 10th 6:00pm 1Ls (Sections 1–3) 6:30pm 1Ls (Sections 4–6) 7:00pm 2Ls 7:30pm 3Ls
