    Texas Environmental Law Journal Cite-On

    Texas Environmental Law Journal (TELJ) will be holding their Fall Cite-On event from Monday, September 6th through Sunday, September 12th at noon. TELJ is a biannual journal with articles, student notes, and developments in environmental and natural-resource law. Members of TELJ have the opportunity to connect with the environmental legal community, refine their bluebook skills, and get to know fellow law students who are interested in environmental law.

    Originalism 101

    Please join the Texas Federalist Society as we host Professor Ilan Wurman, Associate Professor at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. Professor Wurman will present an introduction to originalism: "Originalism 101." Professor Wurman will be joined by Professor Sandy Levinson, the W. St. John Garwood and W. St. John Garwood, Jr. Centennial Professor of Law at the University of Texas, who will be responding to Professor Wurman's introduction. Judge Charles Eskridge of the Southern District of Texas will be moderating.

    Abortion on SCOTUS Shadow Docket

    The Supreme Court's recent ruling on Senate Bill 8 has called into question the Supreme Court's use of the so-called "shadow docket." For those who have questions on what is the "shadow docket," how the Supreme Court approaches abortion and other constitutional issues, and what the next steps are in the litigation over reproductive rights in Texas, Professor Steve Vladeck, an expert on the "shadow docket," is here to answer your questions. Please join him and the American Constitution Society at Texas Law on Constitution Day, September 17, 2021, at 12:00 pm, for a discussion about how Supreme Court does and doesn’t handle constitutional issues—and what’s changed in recent years with the rise of the “shadow docket."

    Cecile Richards, daughter of former Texas Governor Ann Richards, was the President of Planned Parenthood before co-founding Supermajority — a political action group focused on creating a multi-racial, multi-generational movement for women's equity.

    Professor Elizabeth Sepper, one of our very own Texas Law professors, is a nationally recognized scholar with expertise in religious liberty, health law, and equality. Professor Sepper has published articles on anti-discrimination and practiced law with a focus on women's rights.

    There are hundreds of summer judicial internship opportunities available with municipal, state, and federal courts nationwide. Early December is a good time to send out applications and academic credit is available through the Judicial Internship Program for summer internships with eligible courts. This is a great opportunity for 1Ls and 2Ls alike!

    TJOGEL Virtual Roundtable

    On Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Fall semester, the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas, and Energy Law hosts a law firm for a roundtable with interested TJOGEL Society members. At the roundtables, partners and associates visiting from the law firms will present on a wide variety of energy law topics for the first part of the event. Then, TJOGEL Society members will have the opportunity to ask questions and network with the visitors from the law firms.

    Alternative Curriculum Sess.1: Con Law

    LS4BL x ACS's Alternative Curriculum Series are hour-long discussions attempting to integrate principles of racial justice into the 1L core curriculum. The discussions seek not only to shed light on the extent of the permeation of racial inequalities in every aspect of the law, but to equip law students with the necessary tools to speak up in class, ponder hard topics, and work to change the culture of our law school curriculum at large.

    Each discussion is centered on one of the six 1L courses and is facilitated by a professor who is both knowledgeable in the subject and demonstrates a commitment to racial justice. The first session is on Con Law, to be facilitated by Professor Jordan Steiker.
